On the ongoing era, many remote villages in the country do not have access to grid power and they depend on Kerosene and other fossil fuels. Solar Energy for domestic and commercial heating and lighting is one of the viable and sustainable solutions to the energy problem. Harnessing Solar Energy is becoming more and more popular. Bank had viewed the problem of power shortage being faced by the public as an opportunity to extend finance for solar home lighting as well as water heating systems. Hence Bank had launched scheme for financing Solar Home Lighting System, named, “GGB Saur Vidyut” on 28.03.2008. Financing for installation of Solar Lights for domestic and commercial lighting holds immense business potential. As a result, Bank has shown wonderful work in financing Solar Home Lighting Systems and financed about 8000 Solar Home Lighting System. A series of awareness camps have been conducted in association with M/s. Tata BP Solar India Ltd. to achieve 100% coverage of the selected villages in a time bound manner and Bank could cover 20 villages with 100% Solar Home Lighting System. Subsequently, keeping in view of the immense use of Solar Systems and opportunity for expansion of business, Bank recently has also launched scheme for financing Solar Water Heating System. As branches of the Bank are working mainly in rural areas where there is acute shortage of power and branches have to use Gen. Set for supply of the power for proper functioning of the branch. But the use of gen.set is not proper source of power because it creates a lot of noise, pollution, expensive and affects the proper functioning of the branch. To overcome this problem and to minimize the expenses on power supply by way of gen. set the Bank decided to install solar light system in our Patli branch on a pilot basis. The system has been installed and the same is running successfully By having this system, branch is in a position to provide better customer service as well as saving on electricity & expenses. Since the MNRE, GOI and NABARD are emphasizing for installation of Solar Power System in the branches of Banks and providing financial assistance on cost of the system, bank has planned to get installed this system in some more branches Bank has implemented cheque truncation system (CTS) in 27 branches in NCR ,which are members of New Delhi Clearing House Another feat to Bank’s credit is Bancassurance Alliance with the Insurance Major Bajaj Allianz.
